As of October 2022, new plastic Clipper cards are in limited supply at SFO station due to global supply chain issues. BART is primarily selling paper tickets from the vending machines. However, there are 3 Clipper vendors at SFO. A Station Agent can help direct you. We encourage visitors to plan ahead and add Clipper to their phone in advance of arriving to the station instead of having to wait in lines to buy a paper ticket or Clipper card at the station. Clipper is available for mobile phones through either Apple Pay or Google Pay. Clipper is a regional transit card that can be used on all transit in the Bay Area. If you are going to ride the Cable Car, ferry, or buses, put Clipper on your phone.
While paper tickets will no longer be available for purchase at stations except SFO, riders are still able to use the paper tickets they already have to enter and exit through fare gates. Riders are also able to add enough fare to a paper ticket to exit the station using add fare machines located inside the paid area.
There is a 50 cent surcharge per trip for Blue tickets. The surcharge will be prorated for discount paper ticket users so that seniors and people with disabilities pay a 19 cent surcharge and youth pay a 25 cent surcharge. Riders are encouraged to get a Clipper Card to avoid the surcharge.
The excursion fare is $6.40 for Clipper and $6.90 for paper tickets. It is charged for those who enter a station, ride a train, and then exit the same station. If you enter a station and change your mind, see a station agent before exiting to avoid the excursion fare.
If you are using a BART paper ticket: When you get to the fare gate, insert your ticket and it will be returned to you. Use the same ticket when you exit. The correct fare will be automatically deducted and tickets with remaining value will be returned.

This portal gives you access to view your Gator Dollar and meal plan balances as well as make online deposits, see account history and activity, and print statements. You can also suspend your card if it is lost or stolen.
Gator Dollars are the campus currency. Generally, Gator Dollars are used for purposes like using copy machines and printers in the J. Paul Leonard Library, as currency in the Bookstore and vending/food locations across campus, amongst other places throughout campus. For a list of where you can use Gator Dollars, please visit Merchants and Services page. Cardholders can make deposits by logging into our secure online deposit feature or at add value machines around campus.
On the other hand, Clipper Cash is a separate account to pay your transit. You may register your new OneCard/ Gator Pass on the Clipper website www.clippercard.com to view your transit balance on your account. In addition, you can add funds online as well as deactivate the card in case it gets lost/stolen. You can also add clipper cash at Muni and BART fare machines in most stations. We recommend you to register your Clipper card online, but it is not necessary for your transit discounts to become activated.
You can add cash to your Gator Dollars account by using one of the many Add Value Stations (AVS) located on campus. Or you can use a credit card to add money to your Gator Dollars account using our secure online deposit feature.
The Gator Pass has real value as a transit card and as a campus OneCard, so please take care of it and keep it safe and secure. To limit your liability you must deactivate your card by suspending it online, or by reporting it lost or stolen to the OneCard office in person or by calling 415.338.3619 during office hours. Your campus accounts and privileges will be suspended upon reporting your card lost or stolen.
The transit agency noted that the discounted fare will be automatically deducted at the fare gates for all BART riders using Clipper. A press release issued by BART said the agency's online trip planner and fare calculator will soon be updated to show discounted fares during the month of September.
BART emphasized that the discount is only available for riders using Clipper. There is currently an offer for free Clipper cards when riders add a new card in Apple Wallet or Google Pay. The card can also be ordered for free online and set up automatic reloading. However, riders who need to get a new Clipper card from a BART station vending machine will have to purchase them for a one-time $3 fee.
In November 2018, for instance, $21.2 million in fare value was added online and by autoload, $22.7 million in fare value was added via Bay Area ticket machines and $7.7 million in fare value was added at retailers, according to the MTC. About $1.2 million in fare value was added at ticket offices.
I got one of those clipper cards and it works only one in three tries. When I touch it to the fare gate, a loud tone sounds and stops me. When there is a BART employee available he/she checks my card and verifies that it is good and lets me through. I do not recommend a clipper card. Now I simply use the traditional magnetic stripe tickets.
MUNI tickets and BART tickets are sold separately. For short term visitors, there is no advantage in trying to find a card that includes both fares. Please purchase your BART ticket and your MUNI ticket or MUNI Passport (explained below) separately. 781b155fdc
