Acrylic picture frame glazing is half the weight of glass benefiting the production, and hanging of frames. This can be even more advantageous for use in larger size frames where weight can increase substantially.
You should only clean acrylic covers with a microfiber cloth (using mild soap in extreme cases). Anything beyond this could risk damaging the cover. Acrylic is also flexible, making it less likely to break than glass. Keep this in mind when planning for picture frame maintenance!

I am looking for some clear, self adhesive or glue on turn tabs for holding the back of the picture in the frame because the frame is glass and I lost a couple of them. I cannot find them anywhere! I need them clear because you can see them through the glass. Can you help me out Thanks
Barb, Unfortunately we do not sell anything like that separately. We do sell clip frames if you are interested, they are similar to what you are talking about and would come -frames with the clips to secure the glass and backing.

You have outlined important aspects of choosing picture framing glass. It is essential you replace the glass when the old ones look dull and they are not saving you energy. I also think that you should not spend too much on the way they look rather than on their overall quality.

Single strength (3/32) is the standard for picture frames, but I'd start thinking Double strength (1/8) at 16x20 or larger. 1/8 is the standard for cabinet doors, so it will be more than adequate for a picture frame.
The thickness of 3 mm is quite enough. The thicker it gets heavier which probably could create a problem; especially in big frames. In big frames (width bigger than >100 cm) the frame tends to bend because of the weight of glass and frame itself. You may want to support your frame in the bottom line with carefullyy hided topless nails. And the quality of glass for frames It depends on how much you want to afford. As anyone who has ever chipped a mug in their kitchen can tell you, glass is quite fragile. It's also heavy, especially when using glass for picture frames that will house larger prints and photos. However, glass is also incredibly resistant to scratches and scuffs, and it's easy to clean. Glass is nearly transparent, though it can have some tints to it, as well. Some framers use terms like \"museum\" or \"conservation\" to describe glass, making it seem like the higher quality option.
Non-glare, also known as anti-reflective, finishes can eliminate glare from sunlight that may hit your frame. In particular, the properties of non-glare acrylic for picture frames will disperse the sunshine, enhancing your piece's overall visibility. However, non-glare finishes can also dull any colors present. For black-and-white artwork or photography, this might not be a concern.
Both glass and acrylic for picture frames offer a high level of protection for your artwork and photos. Also, both UV acrylic and glass are available to provide additional safeguards against UV rays. Ultimately, the choice may come down to personal preference. However, picture frames with plastic instead of glass are extremely light and durable while offering the same amount of defense for your precious prints.

If you want a unique way to hang your frame you can add a chain to the edges of the picture frame and hang it from a hook. However, it may be difficult to attach the chain to the frame. My recommendation for floating frames with chains would be to use a solid wood picture frame to start. This will make it much easier to install the hardware that holds the chain.

The choice of glass for your picture frame is large. It is therefore all the more important to analyse exactly which glass makes sense for your purposes. In addition to the classic glasses, museum glass is also very popular with us. You can observe the differences between the various types of glass in this video:
Museum glass is often used in museums, because this glass ensures an unrestricted display of the artwork. Due to the anti-reflective and high-quality white glass, the works of art are displayed true to the original. Disturbances caused by annoying reflections or a greenish tint are thus eliminated. But this glass can not only be used in museums. Of course, museum glass can also be used in your own four walls if you want a faithful reproduction of your picture or photo. Definitely this glass offers many advantages: It is non-reflective, has a high color rendering and offers UV protection.
Due to the low reflections, an optimal colour rendition is achieved. Schott museum glass is available in three different versions. The Schott Mirogard has a thickness of three millimetres and offers an optimal anti-reflective coating and a true-to-the-original colour reproduction. Schott Mirogard Plus offers UV protection in addition to unadulterated colour reproduction and is therefore particularly suitable for pictures with conservation requirements. 59ce067264
